FRIEDBERG

In the wake of their support shows for AnnenMayKantereit, FRIEDBERG announce their own headline dates for November 2023. With an escapist blend of post-punk, alternative rock and seductive pop songwriting, Friedberg's sound is primed for a grand autumn evening.

The project itself was born out of a vision to create an entirely new sound for London-based, Austrian-born Anna Friedberg (writer, vocals, guitar) and is backed by a stellar cast of touring musicians, Emily Linden (guitar, vocals), Cheryl Pinero (bass, vocals) and Laura Williams (drums) to develop just that.

FRIEDBERG literally means "peaceful mountain," but that's a far cry from the frenetic and vibrant sound of Anna's colossal new project and debut EP, "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah"; recorded in equal parts in Berlin and London with Daniel Brandt (Brandt Brauer Frick), Matthias Biermann (Roosevelt) and Matt Allchin (Florence & The Machine, Soak, George Ezra).

Last year, the band refined their sound with their debut EP, which was heavily influenced by 1980s New York band ESG and the minimalist, percussive style of LCD Soundsystem. Anna approached the new songs with a sense of rhythm that informs the energy of her highly acclaimed live shows. This was followed by four more No. 1s on FM4, support from 6music, Radio 1, Radio X, Triple J (Australia), Primavera Radio (ES), KCRW (US), Deutschlandfunknova, Flux FM, You FM and Radio Eins (German), support from Steve Lamacq at BBC Recommends and incredible reviews in the Sunday Times, Forty-Five, Glamour, Mystic Sons and more.

In 2022 Friedberg performed at Eurosonic (ARTE TV Live Session), Open Air St. Gallen (Switzerland), Europavox (3 shows - France, Lithuania, Croatia), Popfest Vienna (headliner), Haldern Pop main stage (Germany) and Heimspiel Knyphausen (Germany). This was followed by Reeperbahn Festival and a US tour with Hot Chip, who also supported them at Brixton Academy in London. Anna is currently working on new music with Dan Carey, Joe Goddard and Al Doyle of Hot Chip, as well as London producer Oli Bayston, and will be supporting AnnenMayKantereit with FRIEDBERG at five open air shows in August/September.
