Friederike Latzko - Ins Offene

In the organizer's words:

Friederike Latzko - Into the Open

Friederike Latzko is a founding member of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and has had a significant impact on Bremen’s cultural life through numerous initiatives.

In addition to her long career as a musician—including stints with the Berlin Philharmonic—she was instrumental in founding the professional amateur orchestraSinfonia Concertantein Bremen and in various school projects such as “Response” and “Melody of Life.” The Academy of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen also traces its origins to her initiative.

For some time now, Friederike Latzko has been devoting herself increasingly to painting. In her artistic work, she seeks forms of expression that endure beyond the moment. While music, as a communal experience, arises and fades over time, painting offers her the opportunity to create lasting works and to realize her own artistic ideas independently.

“I’ve been making music intensively for almost half a century now, constantly collaborating with so many people, and now I’ve reached a phase where I feel incredibly relieved and happy when I can be alone in my studio. There, I don’t have to explain to anyone why I do something one way or another. I can experiment endlessly—with colors, with shapes, with materials, with myself.”

The exhibition offers insight into Friederike Latzko’s work as a painter and invites visitors to discover another facet of her artistic practice.
