Choral music from six centuries with the Bachverein Düsseldorf

With Frühlingsahnung, the Bachverein Düsseldorf presents a colorful choral concert with works from six centuries under the direction of Alexander Niehues.

Selected works from the Renaissance to modern times paint a lyrical picture of the awakening spring: from the lively madrigals of Hassler and Gastoldi to the romantic tones of Schumann, Mendelssohn (whose Opus 48 lends the evening its title) and Reger to the floating sounds of contemporary composers such as Whitacre and Gjeilo, among others. A concert full of lightness, longing and awakening. The Bachverein will be accompanied by Florian Stocker on the piano.

The Bachverein Düsseldorf has been shaping the musical life of the city of Düsseldorf for over 150 years - the traditional choir was founded in 1870, making it the oldest documented Bachverein in Germany. During this long period, especially in recent decades, the focus of the choir's work has become firmly established in the preparation of demanding a cappella works from all eras. The choir also regularly performs cantatas, masses and oratorios.

The mixed vocal ensemble consists of around 25 singers with many years of choral experience; since summer 2021, the artistic director has been Alexander Niehues, cathedral conductor at Cologne Cathedral.
