Our museum is a building with the character of a workshop—so went the motto at the opening of the new museum building in 1983, which was designed by the Danish architects Jørgen Bo & Vilhelm Wohlert. With its flexible and open spaces, the architecture connects the interior and exterior as well as nature and art. As art integrated into the architecture, the wall mosaic in the building’s foyer by Mogens Andersen, a floor sculpture in front of the museum’s entrance by Jiří Hilmar, and a Plexiglas light installation by Terry Haass were created. On a tour of the new museum building, we’ll explore the art in the architecture as well as the architectural language of this unique example of museum architecture, which has been a designated historic landmark since 2025.
