William Shakespeare's tragedy "Macbeth" is the prototype of a parable about lust for power. It is about the rise of the military leader Macbeth, who becomes King of Scotland through murder and intrigue. Ukrainian director Stas Zhyrkov, who has been living in exile in Germany since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, examines the questions of power and recognition, guilt and tyranny together with his team and students from the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts for their potential today. How does power work? Where does violence come from? What stories do we tell ourselves to justify it? What can we do to counter it? What can we do against tyranny? Is a world without violence conceivable?
