In the organizer's words:
Villa Mussinan is a woman
featuring works by the artist Karin Kneißl
Elisabeth Carr—art designer and curator
Once again, the privately occupied rooms of Villa Mussinan—this historic, listed building, originally designed as a summer villa and a venue that has hosted numerous events and welcomed many visitors—are opening their doors for a“Gallery to Live In.”
The distinctly feminine character of this house is highlighted and given special, loving attention, for it was—and continues to be—primarily women who have governed, shaped, and artistically defined these rooms and their destinies: Margarethe Mussinan, Mathilde Steininger, Barbara and Johanna Nachreiner, Nortrud von Redwitz, and Elisabeth Carr.
The artist Karin Keißl also once lived and worked at this inspiring place with its large garden and its many doors, windows, and nooks and crannies full of stories and faces.
In her solo exhibition, curated by Elisabeth Carr, Karin Kneißl presents works created both then and since, spanning a broad, feminine creative arc.
