Garten der Welten. Heilpflanzen und traditionelle Praktiken zum Schutz von Land und Terrain

In the organizer's words:

The Brazilian community project Teia dos Povos stands for an integrative approach to plant knowledge that enables an embodied learning experience by linking theoretical, practical, physical and ritual practices.

The workshop is based on a central method of the Universidade dos Povos, the University of the People: CosmoAngola. With the aim of understanding the land and its possibilities, CosmoAngola combines physical movement (capoeira) with horticulture, agroforestry, instrument making, singing and storytelling. These forms of embodied knowledge will be made accessible during the workshop so that participants living in Berlin can build new relationships with landscape and terrain.

During the workshop, a medicinal herb garden based on the unity-in-diversity principle of permaculture will be planted in the Lili Elbe Garden at HKW. Traditional knowledge about ancient plants and their healing powers, about plants that are or are not suitable for joint mixed cultivation and about the decisive role these historical findings play in the fight for environmental and land justice in Brazil will be imparted.

The workshop will end with a public event in the Haunani-Kay Trask Hall at HKW, where the workshop leaders will engage with the Berlin community. The presentation of Teia dos Povos' work in the context of colonial land relations in Brazil is open to all. By discussing the search for a plurality of sovereignties - in relation to water, food, energy, education and self-defense - these themes will be linked to spirituality, traditional knowledge and practices of the relationship between body and land.

The workshop is conceived by the mentors of the Growing phase of A Participatory Planet, the elders of Teia dos Povos, Cinézio Feliciano Peçanha aka Cobra Mansa and Joelson Ferreira.
