On the pulse of time: would you like to take a look behind the scenes?
Just a few days before the world premiere on 20.02.2026 at 8 pm in the Bürgerhaus Unterföhring, the ensemble around author and director Stefan Zimmermann, who is also the director of the Hoftheater, will provide a rare, exclusive insight into the final phase of rehearsals for the new play.
A special evening for all those who not only want to see theater, but also experience it as close as rarely before.
In terms of content, the play "GELD.GIER.MACHT." takes us right into the world of the cum-ex scandal:
On New Year's Eve 2012, senior bank employee Lena tells her husband Emil that certain transactions at her bank seem dubious. Their mutual friend Lambert, a tax lawyer by profession, explains to Lena that tax fraud on an enormous scale has long been part of the "normal" business of many bankers and funds. The state is being systematically defrauded of billions with the "cum-ex" business model out of pure greed. Lambert himself was involved and now wants to get out. Lena decides to take action. Her husband and her best friend Carla want to support her. However, they have to realize that the inventors of the model are obviously very well connected and maintain relationships right up to the highest circles. Not an easy undertaking. But Lena and her friends don't give up. They use decoys, hidden cameras and key witnesses to uncover the billion-dollar fraud. Especially at a time when taxpayers' money is urgently needed, those who have enriched themselves and those who have covered it up should be held accountable.
What actually happened reads like a thriller.
Our tax money has been and is being ripped off to the tune of billions. By whom? By greedy super-rich people, financial advisors, lawyers and international share traders.
Once again, the state was blind in this respect for a long time and far too slow.
It took many years before some of the Cum-Ex loopholes were plugged internationally. To this day, no all-clear can be given; numerous investigations and proceedings are still ongoing. In addition, criminals are already using their expertise to develop new fraud schemes.
The CUM-EX transactions are based on reality. However, a play is not investigative journalism, and with this freedom Stefan Zimmermann develops a political thriller that is as exciting as it is entertaining with a penetrating eye, without naming the real people involved. All the names of the people and banks in the play are fictitious.
Stefan Zimmermann's play Mr. President First already proved that he is a master at transforming real-life political issues into genuine entertainment. Fast-paced and full of esprit, this cutting-edge real-life satire won over the critics on several tours and was enthusiastically acclaimed by the audience.
