Opening event with Danilo Scholz
Moderation: Gabriel Schimmeroth
In a series of events dealing with Frantz Fanon, who would have been one hundred years old in 2025, the historian of ideas and publicist Danilo Scholz will be our guest at the opening event. Frantz Fanon was born in 1925 on the Caribbean island of Martinique and later worked as a doctor and psychiatrist in France and the then French department of Algeria. From the 1950s onwards, he came to public attention as an anti-colonial intellectual and became a central figure in the African independence movement of the 20th century. His works "Black Skin and White Masks" (1952) and "The Wretched of the Earth" (1961) in particular are often referred to, for example by the Black Power movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s or in the field of postcolonial studies. However, there is no shortage of objections to Fanon's work and its impact. Danilo Scholz will classify them at MARKK.
