Another summer with the grandparents in the USA, as always during the big vacation. Far away from her friends in Berlin and her father, the cantor of a synagogue. Far away from Nico, who she sometimes meets up with. Does he miss her? But the smacking of her grandmother in her ear, the disgusting food, the writing course. Then there's the crazy idea of sending her to her mother in Israel. She left her and her father when Margarita was still a baby, back in Hanover. Margarita doesn't feel like it, but what should she do? Her time in Israel is full of unexpected challenges: a new crush, demonstrations and a strange road trip with her unfamiliar mother.
When her grandmother has to go into hospital, Margarita, her father and her mother meet at her bedside in Chicago for the first time in years. Margarita has to face the challenge of finding her own way in the confusion of languages, origins, affiliations and traditions and finding out who she wants to be.
