Shepherd George Hardy is an avid lover of detective stories. Nothing gives him more pleasure than reading stories about murder and mystery to his sheep. In his wildest dreams, he would never have imagined that the animals would not only understand him, but also discuss and puzzle over the stories after the readings. When George is found dead in the pasture one day with a shovel in his back, his sheep immediately realize that it is murder. As the local village policeman Tim Derry has never solved a real crime, the woolly four-legged friends have to use all their detective story knowledge to find George's murderer.
