The largest migration ever experienced by mankind is in full swing: from the countryside to the cities. Forecasts predict 2.3 billion more people on our planet by 2050 - and they will mainly live in cities. Remote sensing data from space illustrate physical and demographic transformation processes on our planet. Prof. Dr. Hannes Taubenböck, who heads the "Georisks and Civil Security" department at the German Aerospace Center, explains the data and reflects on how good these urbanization processes will ultimately be for humanity.
