Ancient Persia is far from forgotten. Even today, artistic handicrafts such as hand-knotted carpets and a rich literature bear witness to the cultural flourishing and intellectual development of the former Persia. However, since the end of the 1970s, everyday life in Iran has been characterized by oppression and rebellion. Although people remember earlier times of freedom, their protests against repression are repeatedly nipped in the bud. As a result, many people have left their homeland and in the diaspora their descendants are searching for answers, asking fundamental questions about their identity and at the same time preserving the stories of their origins. Donya Ahmadifar is one such voice.
Her artistic expression is dedicated to dealing with the current socio-political situation in Iran. In her movement research, she combines contemporary dance styles such as popping, waving and animation with traditional forms of movement. Together with Daniela Rodriguez Romero, she has developed a solo dance performance that conveys a sensual impression of Iranian culture and at the same time makes the freedom movement between struggle and rigidity impressively tangible.
