MY DEAR SWAN!
THE COLLECTION
FROM 17.5.26
"My dear swan!" - an exclamation of surprise, amazement and appreciation. Under this title, the Sprengel Museum Hannover presents its collection in 20 newly designed rooms: around 400 works from classical modernism to the present unfold as comprehensively as they last did ten years ago.
Positions from the 20th and 21st centuries come together here: Max Beckmann and Käthe Kollwitz, Max Ernst and Pablo Picasso, Isa Genzken and Georg Baselitz, Bruce Nauman and Boris Mikhailov, Laure Prouvost and Michel Majerus - numerous, sometimes unusual constellations open up new perspectives on modern and contemporary art. A separate room is dedicated to Niki de Saint Phalle.
The title quotes a work by the Hanoverian artist Christiane Möbus and stands for curiosity, surprised amazement and recognition. The new presentation opens on May 17 - a day that invites visitors to experience the collection in a fresh way.
A varied supporting program awaits visitors on the opening day: music, hands-on activities and workshops invite children and adults alike. Open workshops and short guided tours provide new insights, while coffee bikes and ice cream bikes offer small pleasures in between.
"My Dear Swan" ties in with the presentation "Adventure Abstraction", which has been offering insights into the development of abstraction in 20th and 21st century art in the museum's basement since 2023.
