Gustavo Dudamel & New York Philharmonic
In the organizer's words:
Gustavo Dudamel is one of the most influential conductors on the international music scene. Starting with the 2026–27 season, he will take over as Music & Artistic Director of the New York Philharmonic, following in the footsteps of such giants as Gustav Mahler, Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, and Kurt Masur. On October 17, Dudamel will make his first appearance in this role in Berlin.
The program features Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. This work combines emotional depth, dramatic contrasts, and visionary soundscapes—ideal conditions for Dudamel’s expressive yet precise interpretation.
The first half of the concert will feature the newly commissioned composition “Imágenes mestizas” by Cuban-American composer, conductor, and educator Tania León. The Pulitzer Prize for Music laureate—the first Latin American woman to receive the award in 2021 and honored with the Kennedy Center Honors for her lifetime achievement in 2022—is one of the most influential musical figures of her generation.
