Saisoneröffnung Berliner Philharmoniker - Kirill Petrenko dirigiert Elgar und Tschaikowsky
In the organizer's words:
The two works with which Kirill Petrenko opens the new season are rich in sound and lavish in character. Beneath the luminous surface, however, lie mysterious messages. Edward Elgar’sEnigma Variationsnot only explore a sentimental theme but also offer coded portraits of friends and family members. Pyotr Tchaikovsky, for his part, weaves a “fate motif” throughout his Fourth Symphony—a reference to the personal crises that accompanied him during its composition. While there are moments of light, they are always overshadowed by the looming specter of misfortune.
