Walk through the neighborhoods of Dortmund with Alina Mathiak and Judith Grytzka.

The project "Good benches, bad benches" explores the public spaces in Dortmund's neighborhoods and the social significance of benches. Together with the public, we examine the location, design, surroundings and accessibility of the benches. The aim is to identify good and bad places to sit, discover gaps in the public space and identify potential for improvement. During the walk, we document and evaluate the benches using a points system and mark places without seating. The end result is a diverse collection of both good and not-so-good benches that emphasizes the role of benches as social meeting places.
