About writing in times of Chat GPT
Wernher von Braun, Robert Oppenheimer and Alan Turing are considered the fathers of the rocket, the atomic bomb and the computer. But they not only worked scientifically, they also wrote literary works. In the novel "Pages of the Sky", the narrator sets off to the Forstell Institute in the Nevada desert to search for the novels and poems of those scientists who ushered in the space and atomic age.
Why did von Braun write science fiction novels? What is it about Oppenheimer's poems? And what lines can be drawn from then to the digitalization of literature and writing in the age of artificial intelligence?
Philipp Schönthaler, born in Stuttgart in 1976, explores the relationship between literature and technology in both literary and theoretical terms in his books. His most recent publications are "Seiten des Himmels" (2024), "Wie rationale Maschinen romantisch wurden. KI, Kreativität und algorithmische Postrationalität" (2024) and "Die Automatisierung des Schreibens & Gegenprogramme der Literatur".
