Habitat Erde - Die Wunderwelt des Lebens

In the organizer's words:

Living networks connect and support every kind of life form. This applies to colonies of tiny microbes, but also to populations of giant whales and, last but not least, to ever-expanding human societies. The starting point of the impressive journey in THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF LIFE is a busy harbor with its cranes and containers. Not far from it is a wetland where birds go in search of food. But what goes on beneath the surface of the water? At the star dome of the Hamburg Planetarium, visitors are immersed in an underwater world and see themselves surrounded by kelp forests and their inhabitants. They observe how even the smallest aquatic animals not only help the hunters to survive, but also go in search of food themselves. Everything is interconnected in an astonishing way. This is also the case in the lush undergrowth of a Douglas fir forest, where tiny ants make the audience's arms and legs tingle - namely when they follow them under the forest floor and understand how microorganisms are involved in the survival of the largest trees on earth. Last but not least, visitors to HABITAT ERDE travel into space and take a look at the global and dynamic network of life on our planet in the solar system.

Together with Prof. Dr. Matthias Glaubrecht, evolutionary biologist at the Hamburg site of the Leibniz Institute for the Analysis of Biodiversity Change (LIB), the Hamburg Planetarium has expanded the original version to include current data and aspects of species loss. This was done with the support of the Rüm Hart Foundation.
