Hallen, Höfe, Terrassen – Die besondere Architektur des MdbK
In the organizer's words:
Architecture Tour of the House with Ulrike Brinkmann
The Architecture of the Mdbk:
Designed by the Berlin-based architectural firm Hufnagel / Pütz / Rafaelian, the glass cube towers 36 meters above the surrounding buildings. Visible even from the outside are the courtyards and terraces, which open the museum toward the city and echo the design of Leipzig’s arcades. The interior’s spaciousness is unique, especially in combination with the diverse sightlines and views of the cityscape. Materials such as glass, exposed concrete, shell limestone, and oak dominate the interior and lend it a rich variety of atmospheres.
The presentation of contemporary works and site-specific installations on the terraces, in the courtyards, and in the stairwells allows visitors to experience the encounter between art and architecture in a special way.
