June 19 to 28
HAMBURGER FOUNDATION DAYS 2026
"Your good cause is here"
What holds our urban society together at its core? Above all, the people who live here and shape Hamburg's social fabric together every day. Many of those who want to make a lasting difference are organized in foundations. Not elitist, but very close to the realities, problems and opportunities of our community, they are involved in the areas of politics, sport, the environment, culture, inclusion, children and family, history and society. Civic involvement in foundations has a tradition in Hamburg that goes back over 800 years - so it's no wonder that Hamburg is the German stronghold of the foundation sector with more than 1,500 foundations.
What foundations do and how anyone who wants to can get actively involved is still not well enough known! This is why the foundations of the Hanseatic city are once again celebrating the Hamburg Foundation Days this year. For the 11th time, more than 150 foundations will open their doors and gates even wider than usual between June 19 and 28: from Allermöhe to Rissen, from Harburg to Volksdorf, they will literally show what they are made of in many events. The free program includes more than 250 events and offers. Highlights include
- on 18.6. the Foundation Days kick-off with a performance night under the motto "Supported and celebrated" at the KörberForum
- on 22 and 23 June, a reading and journey into the world of Hamburg's residential foundations, including at the Heerlein and Zindler Foundation in St. Georg
- Foundations on several days about opportunities to get involved - including the BürgerStiftung Hamburg on 22.06. under the title "Because it counts."
- on 24 June, Julia Westlake will host a talk about foundations in the JazzHall with Rolf Zuckowski, Ingrid Ehlerding and Johanna von Hammerstein, among others
- on 25.6. the Anschar Choir celebrates health and community
- On 26 June, Hamburg Sustainability Week opens and, together with foundations, presents the motto "We are building the future. And together." in artistic contributions by young people showing their view of tomorrow
- on 26 June, young and old can research, discover and experience at the Student Research Center during the Open Day
- on 28.6. a voyage of discovery to Raakmoor with the Loki Schmidt Foundation
There are numerous exhibitions, readings, events for children and young people, a bike tour with a tree planting campaign, screen printing workshops, concerts, theater and! so! much! more!

Saturday, 20.6.: All together at the Rathausmarkt
The festival: The centerpiece of this year's Foundation Days is once again the successful joint model "Hamburg's longest table for democracy, diversity and cohesion". The more than 140 participating foundations, associations and initiatives set up a 400-meter-long table that fills the entire Rathausmarkt and invites the whole city to chat, feast, play, dance and debate. The various organizations introduce themselves and their commitment to the common good, offer programs and advice and invite you to find the good cause you would like to support in the future.
Together, the AKTIVOLI state network and the state working group of volunteer agencies (lagfa) will put people in touch with suitable projects and organizations where they can volunteer. Our tip: Be sure to stroll around with some time to spare, because every table is different!
Donate things: Hanseatic Help, Hamburger Tafel and DER HAFEN HILFT! are collecting donations in kind for people in need on the right-hand side of the Rathausmarkt under the motto Hamburg packt's zusammen. Food, clothing, household goods - anything that helps people is welcome! Free coffee and snacks are also available here, as well as a sympathetic ear. The campaign is supported by numerous companies, foundations and other partners.
Further information
The big stage: On the Rathausmarkt stage, visitors to the Longest Table for Democracy can look forward to a varied program hosted by Michel Abdollahi. Among other things, there will be a performance by the first Tanztriennale taking place in Hamburg from June 14 to 21, which will turn the Rathausmarkt into the city's largest dance floor. The Bundesjugendballet will perform between 12 and 2 p.m. before the whole of Hamburg is invited to dance along to the "All Moves" format launched last year - the dance style has not yet been revealed!
Around 100 young voices from several school choirs from The Young ClassX will also be performing on stage (2 pm). There will also be short performances by Step by Step, an initiative of the BürgerStiftung Hamburg (from 2:45 pm), beatboxing with Salut Deluxe (3:30 pm) and a sing-along with the Hamburg pub choir from 4:15 pm. In between, Tafel conférencier Michel Abdollahi will be talking to various actors from the longest Tafel about their work.
