Hanau - eine Nacht und ihre Folgen

Special screening followed by a discussion with director Marcin Wierzchowski and members of the February 19 Initiative

The murderer chose his victims according to the color of their skin and hair. This night marks the beginning of a long and agonizing period of grief and despair for the relatives and friends of those killed. Some of them were born here, some have lived in Germany for decades, others have only recently come here to build a new life for themselves. The film consistently takes the perspective of the bereaved; it shows only their memories and their view of what happened before, during and after the crime. In this way, Marcin Wierzchowski's film also raises questions about being a stranger in Germany, about inequality and about everyday racism in authorities and educational institutions.
