OSCILLAZIONI
A sound installation drawn from an archive of original compact cassettes by Christina Kubisch
Following archival installation projects for the Donaueschingen Music Festival, the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music, Sasha Waltz & Guests, and the DAAD Artists-in-Residence Program, Hanno Leichtmann now presents a sound installation drawn from a collection of original installation compact cassettes by sound art pioneer Christina Kubisch from her so-called “Milan phase” (1978–1988). The tapes, featuring sounds from field recordings, instruments, and simple electronic devices, served as sound sources for her sound installations, which were often multichannel even back then.
Hanno Leichtmann creates his own sound material from these original tapes using granular loopers and samplers—as well as analog and digital spectral modules. In addition to the classic tools of musique concrète, the process also includes digital processing of the archival material—such as re-pitching, stretching, re-synthesizing, and spectral analysis—as well as processing with analog and digital audio effects.
In addition, drawings and sketches by Christina Kubisch related to selected sound installations will be displayed in the form of an exhibition.
