silent green Open Lab #9: JKZQ + franna
In the organizer's words:
silent green presents
Following a successful first edition in 2025, we are pleased to continue the silent green Open Lab—a platform for Berlin-based musicians and performance artists taking their first steps on stage.
JKZQ
JKZQ is a Berlin-based duo consisting of Wang Ze-Qing and Jakob Stæterstad. In their improvisations, they use guitar distortion and feedback from mixing consoles as central sonic elements. Through complex signal paths and routing techniques, they blur the boundaries between digital and analog soundscapes.
franna
In her work, Berlin-based artist franna explores the emergence and negotiation of contrasts through sound. Cassette recordings, field recordings, and gentle vocals enter into a dialogue with amplified, distorted, and processed cello textures. Influenced equally by experimental pop, ambient soundscapes, and noise, her music navigates between inner states of boredom and sensory overload while simultaneously seeking slowness and intensity—as a deliberate form of ambiguity. In their live performances, drones and ambient tapes oscillate between structured song forms and improvised soundscapes. Their debut album will be released in 2027 on the Berlin-based label subsidized time.
