Hartmut Kiewert „ZUsammenKUNFT DER SPEZIES“
In the organizer's words:
Art can help us better understand our world. Figurative painting, in particular, shows how we humans see and experience things. It takes its time—and invites us, too, to look more slowly. Hartmut Kiewert’s paintings are calm and clearly composed. They do not come across as loud or dramatic. Instead, their power unfolds gradually. The more you look, the more you discover.
The focus is on the coexistence of humans and animals. Both meet on equal footing. Neither is more important than the other. This creates an image of equality and shared existence. Hartmut Kiewert avoids strong emotions or clear-cut narratives. His figures remain calm, almost reserved. It is precisely this that creates a special, peaceful atmosphere.
His philosophy is also reflected in his working methods: He lives a vegan lifestyle and uses no animal-derived materials. For him, art and life go hand in hand. The exhibition at the Mannheimer Kunstverein invites visitors to look closely—and to rethink their own view of the world.
A comprehensive catalog (120 pages, hardcover, thread-bound) accompanying the exhibition is available for 15 euros.
