Augustin Hadelich, the German-born violinist who grew up in Italy and lives in the USA, enjoys an absolutely special status among the stars of his instrument, especially among connoisseurs: Hadelich's playing sounds expressive, sweet and supple in an almost old-fashioned way and is at the same time characterized by such unreal brilliance and controlled precision that even supposedly well-known works seem to be charged with unexpected intensity. Hadelich has three great duo sonatas from the first half of the 20th century with him in Heidelberg, but one of the highlights of the evening is likely to be the fifth solo sonata by Eugène Ysaÿe with its famous sunrise movement at the beginning.
