The Gropius Quartet, in which two married couples have come together, tells of very different love constellations in its program. First of all, there are two siblings who love each other dearly but are torn apart by death: Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and his sister Fanny. The surviving brother's sixth quartet, which has also been described as an instrumental "Requiem for Fanny", is darkly expressive and full of pain. In contrast, the Turkish pianist and composer Fazıl Say dealt with his own divorce and the emotional rollercoaster that came with it in his string quartet "Divorce" in 2010. Antonín Dvořák's "American" Quartet, whose many sunny moments reveal a great love of nature, is almost redemptive.
