Views across the Atlantic define the Swedish ensemble's first program: what currently seems more politically topical than ever was also immensely fruitful in the musical field in the 20th century. Benjamin Britten, the brilliant man from the English south-east, went to the USA for three years in 1939, while composers from the other side of the ocean continued to keep a very close eye on what was happening in old Europe. One of the most important compositional developments of the late century was the permeability of the spheres of "pop" and "classical" in the wake of the minimal music of Steve Reich or Philip Glass. In this kaleidoscopic program, star saxophonist Jess Gillam and Hugo Ticciati's ensemble demonstrate just how fantastically beautiful this can sound.

The concert is part of a temporary "squat": Hugo Ticciati and his highly acclaimed chamber orchestra O/Modernt are moving into the new Heidelberg Stadthalle concert hall for three days. This residency comprises five very different formats with highly exciting soloists and is one of the ensemble's first major residencies outside Sweden.

The concert will be followed by an artist talk with Hugo Ticciati.
