This concert features an American-European dialog. In 1988, John Zorn created "Cat o'Nine Tails", a kind of whimsical musical comic with a multitude of characters in over 60 contrasting short episodes and a colorful mix of classical-harmonic, trivial and noisy sounds. Mozart's D major Quartet, composed almost exactly 200 years earlier, is also exceptionally dense and varied - and also has a particularly beautiful sound. In his fifth string quartet, Béla Bartók displays a pronounced motoric drive, which manifests itself particularly in the fast movements with hammering repetitions of notes and asymmetrical rhythms.
