On December 13, 1797, the world-famous poet Heinrich Heine was born at Bolkerstraße 53. Today, the Heine House literature shop is located there. The poet's birthplace is the starting and meeting point for our city tour in the footsteps of the young Heinrich Heine.

Explore with me the young poet's favorite places, from the houses of his parents and relatives to the most important sights of his time, including the remains of the burnt-down city palace and the market square with the baroque equestrian statue of the Elector "Jan Wellem". Find out where Heine listened to ghost stories and rummaged through the high bookshelves of the Elector's library.

Heine's school days take us on to Düsseldorf's Carlstadt district, where the secularized Franciscan monastery, now the Maxhaus, housed an elementary school and grammar school.
