Hermann - und Else -
a romantic love story from the Ruhr region.Told with texts, music and pictures
is the title of an event that can be experienced on November 12, 16.00 clock in the Melanchthon Church Düsseldorf. A "true story" will be told. For Hermann and Else really lived at the beginning of the 20th century, and both were typical children of the Ruhr area: Hermann came from a miner's family, Else from a railroad family. And no one would know the story of their great love today if Hermann had not regularly sent his Else hand-painted postcards. They were small, carefully crafted miniature paintings, and they showed Hermann, the young miner, to be a very talented painter.
Hermann painted over 100 of these postcards, and a selection of them will be shown via beamer projection. This will be accompanied by music as it was played in the coffee houses of the time, where Hermann and Else were regular guests.
And as if all this were not romantic enough, a second love story will be read in parallel: Kurt Tucholsky's novella "Rheinsberg". A picture book for lovers.
