"Hoya"

Concert by the Ukrainian women's choir "Gloria UA" and band

"Gloria" - the choir

It is a success story that was born out of tragedy: the Ukrainian women's choir "Gloria UA". 25 women from all over Ukraine who came to Bremen during the war were formed into this unique choir by Yana Wermuth, a singer from Kharkiv who had also fled to Bremen.
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the women stand on stage and sing about their beautiful homeland, which now lies in ruins. Their powerful voices tell of the situation, how they feel the ground beneath their feet again and how they are shaping their new future in Germany.
After almost 3 years since the founding of Gloria UA, they are now releasing their first album entitled "Hoya" and presenting it with their band. Their musical and vocal repertoire covers a broad spectrum of rock, pop, ballads and traditional Ukrainian singing with songs written especially for them.

"Hoya" - The album

The title of the album "Hoya" is an invented name with a hint of song in it. The lullaby is the first song in a child's life - it opens the door to the world. The melodiousness, singing and sonority of Ukrainian music are reflected in this name. In it lies the feminine nature, the cycle of life, rebirth and inner light. Like a plant that blossoms in response to care, the woman opens up through her voice, through music and the connection to her roots.
This album is about the connection between generations. The old and the new interweave to create a vibrant fabric of sound. We draw on old Ukrainian melodies, lullabies, spring songs and our own compositions to show how female energy continues to resonate today - honestly, naturally and in a new way. The album brings together songs in which the flow of time is palpable - from folk motifs ("Sumna ja bula", "Idi zyma", "Wesnjanka") to modern interpretations and original compositions ("Wsesiwit", "Tanzi", "Hoya"). These are stories about women, about life, about the power of tenderness and the beauty of simple moments. Through these songs we talk about memory, about music, about love and light - about what has lived on in the Ukrainian song tradition for thousands of years.
The visual image of the album is a metaphor for the inner world of the woman and for the nature of Ukraine itself. Soft colors, flowing lines and wave-like transitions symbolize life energy, breath, harmony and naturalness. At the same time, they evoke the unmistakable landscape of our country - mountains, forests and rivers - the beauty in which the soul of the Ukrainian song lives. In these gentle waves you can feel the movement of the wind, the flow of the water and the touch of the sun. The sun is the central symbol. It stands for eternal life, for rebirth and for the warm power that nourishes all living things. It unites day and night, past and present - and reminds us that life and music are a circle in which every new breath continues the story. The colors of the cover - natural, earthy and harmonious - convey a sense of home, tranquility and deep connection with the Ukrainian earth from which everything begins.
