In the organizer's words:

Hummel Hummel – Blues Blues 2:

On August 1 and 2, Dexter Santos and Heidi Fite will be coming to the New Swing Studio in Hamburg for a blues dance weekend.

The workshop is designed for people who already dance swing styles such as Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag, SlowBal, or Slow Swing and would like to explore blues dance. There are two levels: one for beginners to blues dance and one for experienced dancers.

“Start the Blues” is for anyone who already dances swing and wants to get to know blues dance. This level is right for you if you’ve been hesitant to go to a blues party, have perhaps already taken a crash course, or are looking for a clear starting point.

“Experience the Blues” is aimed at dancers who have already been to blues parties, taken classes, or attended workshops. This level is for you if you want to make your blues dancing more confident, precise, and versatile.

Dexter Santos is from San Francisco and has been dancing Blues since 2005. He has taught internationally, competed in dance competitions, and won multiple times at bluesSHOUT, one of the most well-known Blues dance events in the U.S.

Heidi Fite began blues dancing in St. Louis in 1999. She is one of the early pioneers of the U.S. blues dance scene; she founded “Cheap Thrills,” one of the first blues dance workshops in the U.S., and later taught, judged, and co-organized at bluesSHOUT. The history of blues dance also plays a role in her classes, as these dances originated from African American music and dance culture.

On Saturday evening, starting at 8:30 p.m., there will be a blues party with live music by Markus Bak. He is a guitarist and singer who has been performing at blues events and festivals since the 1990s. In the swing scene, he is known, among other things, for his work with the bands Brauns Chocolate and Bun-Jon & The Big Jive.

For workshop participants, the party is included in the workshop fee.
External guests pay a 13-euro admission fee.

The workshops will be held in English.
