Simple language: Ida Nielsen plays bass and sings. She used to tour with Prince. Ida Nielsen & The Funkbots make funk music.

Ida Nielsen's life was turned upside down when music legend Prince discovered her in August 2010. Shortly afterwards, she joined his band and went on tour with him and "The New Power Generation", and later with the four-piece power rock band "3rdeyegirl". Ida was part of his bands from 2010 until his untimely death in April 2016. She describes playing with Prince as "a great gift and the most magical musical journey ever, an ongoing learning experience beyond imagination".

After her years with Prince, Ida began to focus on her solo career again.

She has been releasing music regularly since 2016 and has expanded her touring schedule tremendously. Her music can best be described as a mix of old-school funk and hip-hop with world music influences, catchy melodies and lots of bass. Together with her band "The Funkbots", she delivers an energetic funk show full of good vibes, tight grooves and subtle references to her former employer and teacher Prince.

Ida was voted one of the top 10 bassists in the world in the annual Music Radar survey 2019 (together with her colleagues Stanley Clarke and Victor Wooten).
