"Raging Bull" was the title of boxer Jake LaMotta's autobiography, and it was under this title that Martin Scorsese directed a boxing film that simultaneously revolutionized and trans
sub-genre and transcended it at the same time: the life story of an ambivalent man whose violent impulses were not limited to the ring is expanded by Scorsese.
Scorsese also expands the life story of a conflicted man whose violent impulses were not limited to the ring into a portrait of New York's Italian immigrant neighborhood.

The intense cinematic rapid fire of his sharp-edged black and white images alternates between realism, alienation and exaggeration.

"Like a Wild Bull" (German title) is also an Oscar-winning work of montage art and a milestone in Martin Scorsese's extraordinarily long-lasting collaboration with Thelma Schoonmaker, who has edited almost all of his works since 1967.

The film became a source of inspiration for the careers of many editors, including our guest Simon Gstöttmayr, who edited the feature film "Der Junge muss an die frische Luft", among others.
