Im Gespräch #07: Die Kurator:innen THEATER DER WELT 2026

At the end of the festival, the nine international curators will come together once again in the Spinnbaugarten and look back on their artistic processes, encounters and experiences during the curation and festival period. The discussion will focus on international perspectives and defining moments of the festival and the collaboration.

Theater of the World:

From June 18 to July 5, 2026, Chemnitz will be in the international spotlight: Germany's largest international theater festival "Theater der Welt" is coming to Chemnitz - directly following the Capital of Culture year 2025. For three weeks, Chemnitz will be a meeting place for artists, audiences and theater enthusiasts from all over the world. A lively celebration of the performing arts will take place on stages, in urban spaces and in unusual locations, overcoming borders and bringing together stories from all over the world.

The festival program is designed by nine international curators from Australia, Canada, Colombia, Argentina, South Africa, Greece, Jordan, India, Senegal and China. They will meet in Chemnitz in November to select around 40 outstanding productions - works that they have previously viewed in their regions. The result is an inspiring panorama of current theater forms, languages and perspectives.
