December 1980 - John Lennon is shot dead on the street in New York by a fanatical fan. The worldwide sympathy knows no bounds. The myth of Lennon is born: unattainable idol, brilliant musician, fighter for peace, freedom and equality, loving husband.

But the life of this global star also knew deep abysses: He lost his mother at the age of 17. The Beatles' success made a life outside the public eye impossible for him from his youth onwards. The Beatles split up. The first marriage failed, the second with Yoko Ono was publicly celebrated as a form of political art. The side effects of this life in the fast lane: drugs, psychological problems, violence, fraud.

Imagine is a search for traces - and a tribute to this exceptional artist whose message of "Love & Peace" changed an entire generation.
