Due to popular demand, we’re adding this film back to our lineup to mark the anniversary of Norbert Schwefel’s death:
Schwefel—the band was known for its experimental sound, which incorporated elements of post-punk and industrial music. The song “Schizophrenic Party,” in particular, was a major hit for Schwefel on the independent scene. The band was founded in 1984 by Mannheim-based musician and producer Norbert Schwefel, who, as the group’s frontman, was hailed by *Spex* as the “new god of the underground.” In addition to numerous record releases, he curated an open-air festival in Mannheim and also discovered a passion for filmmaking. Norbert Schwefel died in 2015 at the age of 54. The film traces his journey since 1987, features interviews with friends and fellow musicians, and showcases performances and events. He was able to complete his magnum opus, “Die Schwefel Oper,” before his death with the help of a few friends.
