inner symphonies >< SACRE
In the organizer's words:
The dance performance by Olaf Schmidt and guest choreographer Georg Reischl explores inner reflection and a society that pushes itself to the limits of existence through expressive rituals. Georg Reischl played a formative role as a dancer at the Frankfurt Ballet under the direction of American choreographer William Forsythe. As a choreographer, Reischl is known for his abstract and high-energy works. The clear structure and detailed body language of his choreographies create intense moments. He does not shy away from experimentation in his work. At the same time, he knows how to balance tradition and modernity. His piece “inner symphonies” is set to the music of the same name by Polish composer Hania Rani. She combines elements of classical piano music with influences from ambient, film music, and electronic soundscapes.
In the second part, ballet director Olaf Schmidt turns his attention to a milestone in music history. The tumultuous uproar and stormy outrage of the audience that followed the premiere of “Le sacre du printemps” in 1913 made its composer, Igor Stravinsky, famous once and for all. Even today, this expressive, mystical work—which tells of a sacrifice for spring—remains one of the most powerful and beloved compositions in modern dance theater.
