[in]operabilities #1 »A Singthing«

PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:

"What you can't say yet, maybe you can already sing!"

When it comes to opera, many people start to dream: of a universal language of music and emotions - a language that finally connects us all. Does the old powerhouse of emotions really offer opportunities for boundless understanding? Is this where the unheard-of feelings find their true expression? Should we all finally learn to sing arias?

The multi-sensory aria evening "A Singthing" is the first piece developed by the [in]operabilities team. Three performers explore their individual relationships to music. With dramatic faces and pulsating lights, with grand gestures and touching vibrations, the ensemble creates possibilities for musical communication and operatic emotional production.

The artists

[in]operabilities is an artistic research project in contemporary music theater and links the art form of opera with the question of its accessibility. In the canon and cosmos of opera, artists and interdisciplinary researchers search for forms of multi-sensory music-making and encounters - for collective and individual "opera-abilities".

Athena Lange studied acting at the Leipzig Drama School and has since worked at the Staatstheater Hannover, the Sophiensaele Berlin and Kampnagel Hamburg, among others. She leads workshops for deaf and hearing children, works as Outside Eye and researches bilingual and sign language theater work.

Sabrina Ma is a classically trained percussionist in the field of contemporary music and musical theater. Whether as a soloist, chamber musician or performer, she knows how to transcend the rigid boundaries of percussion instruments through her sensual and imaginative playing.

Leo Hofmann creates, composes and plays music theater, performances, radio plays and installations. He works with voice, electronics and movement, exploring the mediality of music, the visual in music-making and the physical in sound.

Benjamin van Bebber works as a director, performer and dramaturge. His work focuses on testing collective work processes in music theater and the voice as a possibility for experimental encounters. He has been working closely with Leo Hofmann since 2014, focusing on music as a means of communication and resonance. inoperabilities.net
