Wed, 19.06.24 | Inside... Laura Robles (cajón, e-bass, composition)
"She beats the beat with unadorned, wild sensuality. Laura Robles beats with the power of the earth" - Süddeutsche Zeitung
Laura Robles began learning Afro-Peruvian percussion at the age of 4 and is one of the best cajón players in Peru. Her trio Tripas uses self-made electronics and various cajóns. The three musicians use rhythmic elements of Latin American music and the noise characteristic of the continent to create new sounds, melodies and rhythms with traditional and new instruments. Free improvisation is an elementary component here.
The Astro Combo Berlin will be playing powerful Afro-rock-jazz-funk with a good dose of improvisation and Robles on electric bass. She has written 12 "unfinished" compositions for the Astro Combo, which are completed live by changing guest musicians, so that the end product sounds different every time. Exciting!
