A Greek classic, told for children
The Greeks are moored in Aulis with their ships to go to war against the Trojans. But without wind, the men cannot sail. The oracle prophesies terrible things: King Agamemnon must sacrifice his daughter Iphigenia, then the goddess Artemis will send the longed-for wind. Under a pretext, the father and supreme commander of the army has the girl Iphigenia summoned to the Greek camp.
Pauline Mol's play is based on the story of Iphigenia as told by the Greek poet Euripides (480-406 BC) in his tragedy. The Dutch author tells the ancient myth for children in a modern, transparent theatrical version from the perspective of a child caught between the fronts in a war.
