With *The Girl in Artificial Silk*, Irmgard Keun wrote a seminal work of New Objectivity. In it, she explores the role of women in the Weimar Republic while also casting a critical eye on the consumer and media culture emerging at the time, as well as the yawning gap between rich and poor. The two actresses bring the novel to life alongside the author’s autobiographical texts and numerous contemporary chansons, creating an exciting evening of theater.
