Jamie Baum Quartet & Anke Helfrich Trio

When Jamie Baum's quartet meets Anke Helfrich's trio, the result is an energetic concert evening full of joyful playing, improvisation and musical encounters at the highest level.

With the quartet of flautist Jamie Baum and the trio of pianist Anke Helfrich, two ensembles meet that have been washed in all (even traditional) waters and can hardly be surpassed in their innovative joy of playing.

As soloists and composers, their leaders are among the most distinctive voices of our time. Both earned their spurs in the New York scene, both learned from great masters - Anke Helfrich studied with Kenny Baron, Jamie Baum with Jaki Byard and Richie Beirach, among others. In their careers, both have performed on stage with the top jazz musicians and have released outstanding albums.

It would go beyond the scope of this article to introduce their peers - Leo Genovese, who worked with esperanza spalding and Wayne Shorter, and Dietmar Fuhr, who played with David Liebman and Kurt Rosenwinkel, among others, deserve special mention. The evening will end with a swinging jam session featuring all seven musicians - passion and energy are guaranteed!
