In the organizer's words:
In cooperation with Vintage der Weinladen, we are pleased to welcome author Jarka Kubsova from Hamburg to Lilienthal on September 9, 2026. She was born in 1977 in the former Czechoslovakia and has lived in Germany since 1987.
Jarka Kubsova has worked as a journalist, ghostwriter, and co-author of several successful nonfiction books. Her debut novel, *Bergland*, was published in 2021, followed in 2023 by the novel *Marschlande*, which was nominated for the “Favorite Book of Independent Bookstores” award and adapted for the stage.
Jarka Kubsova, In the Light of the New Day
Finally, a new book by Jarka Kubsova, one of our favorite authors. The author of the novels *Bergland* and *Marschlande* has written a deeply moving story in her new book, which this time is set deep in the Bohemian forests and in which the fates of two courageous women are interwoven in a fairy-tale-like manner:
When the writer Elli Hajek retreats to a secluded house to write, she recalls acharacterher Czech grandmother once told her about: Viktorka, the young woman who was declared insane after a traumatic event and lived alone in the Bohemian forest from then on. When Elli learns that Viktorka really existed, she travels to the country she herself fled as a child. But once there, she must first confront her own repressed history.
In a fairy-tale-like, beautiful, exciting, and captivating story, Jarka Kubsova tells of a young woman searching for her homeland—a truly delightful read!
