The Museum Küppersmühle is presenting the most comprehensive solo exhibition to date of the renowned Spanish sculptor Jaume Plensa. This is the first time in a decade that a German museum has dedicated such a show to the internationally acclaimed artist.
Over 50 impressive sculptures, selected works on paper and wall drawings created especially for the museum offer a unique encounter with Plensa's powerfully poetic art. His works build bridges, pose questions and bring beauty to everyday life - regardless of skin color, ideology, religion or geography.
Plensa is known worldwide for his large-scale works in public spaces. His project Secret Garden (2025) for the Salzburg Festival was outstanding. In Germany, his large-scale sculptures can be seen in Bonn-Bad Godesberg, Frankfurt am Main and Potsdam, among other places.
The exhibition opens with the imposing sculpture Flora (2021) in the entrance area and a spectacular installation in the silo room: Invisible Anna (2018), a large, transparent head made of stainless steel rods that dominates the room. Eight other exhibition rooms show the formal and thematic range of Plensa's work: marble, alabaster, plastic, bronze, iron and steel castings in a wide variety of scales.
The exhibition is accompanied by a large-format publication with exhibition views, an interview with Walter Smerling and an essay by Clemens Setz.
Plensa's works are enigmatic and inspiring - they invite contemplation about ourselves, about beauty and sublimity. Clemens Setz describes it aptly:
"Standing before them, we remain alone with ourselves, and not intimidated or unfulfilled, but gifted and peculiarly elevated."
