Jazz meets Hannover Baroque

A crossover concert series featuring the JazzArt Ensemble

This year’s JazzArt Ensemble features an instrumentation that is absolutely unusual for modern jazz: theorbo, harpsichord, and viola da gamba, alongside vocals, saxophone, and drums, make up just a part of the diverse array of instruments with which the sextet—led by artistic director Ulli Orth—brings exclusive original compositions by the ensemble members to the stage for an exciting evening of music.

Inspired by influences from Hanover’s musical tradition dating back to Handel and Steffani, the ensemble creates extraordinary sounds and grooves that transcend historical boundaries and blend a spirit of experimentation with extensive improvisation.

The concert promises a first-class musical experience that will resonate not only with jazz lovers and fans of classical music, but with all music enthusiasts open to refined and innovative sounds.

The JazzArt Niedersachsen project series

has been successfully exploring the connection between modern jazz and other art forms—including those outside the realm of music—every two to three years since 2004 (Jazz goes Praetorius). Three of the past projects included an encounter between three neighboring European regions (Heimatklänge), a fusion with sacred vocal music (Jazz goes Church Music), and an exploration of German poetry (In Wahrheit Jazz). Most recently, in 2022, the project “Rollin’ 20s” created a musical connection between the music of the past and present 1920s through video art.
