Jazz-Konzert: Uli Wunners New Orleans Hot3

With the New Orleans Hot3, clarinettist and saxophonist Uli Wunner recalls the tradition of the "small groups" - those formations that have always played an important role in New Orleans jazz. For his trio, Uli has engaged musician friends who belong to the "crème de la crème" of the European traditional jazz scene and with whom Uli has worked successfully for many years.

Harry Kanters from Breda, Holland, sits at the piano. He is one of the most sought-after pianists on the scene and has a diverse repertoire ranging from ragtime to early bebop. He is a co-founder of the well-known Swing Cats, with whom he gave concerts throughout Europe in the 1980/90s. Harry is a permanent band member of the Creole Clarinets, leads several of his own formations and is also very successful as a solo pianist. Harry has been a permanent member of Leroy Jones and Uli Wunner's Jazz Creole band for many years.

The drums are played by Guillaume Nouaux, who was born in Arcachon, France. Winner of the "Jazz Academy Prize" and the "Prize Hot Club de France" - one of the world's most important awards for jazz musicians - he has performed on numerous stages and at jazz festivals all over the world. Guillaume has visited New Orleans several times, where he took lessons from the city's legendary drummer, Herlin Riley. From the 2000s onwards, he toured the world with his own formations, working with many New Orleans musicians such as Leroy Jones, Lucien Barbarin, Don Vappie, Wendell Brunious and many more. Uli Wunner met Guillaume for the first time in 2007 in New Orleans, where they performed together on sessions with musicians from the city.

Uli Wunner has been an integral part of the European New Orleans jazz family for more than 50 years. He has been traveling to New Orleans regularly for many years and performs there with various bands. Uli has been touring successfully throughout Europe for 25 years with the world-class trumpeter Leroy Jones from New Orleans. He is considered one of the few musicians in Europe who have internalized the sound and playing style of the original Creole clarinetists from New Orleans.

For the tour in May 2024, which Uli sees as a tribute to the great clarinettists such as Albert Nicholas, George Lewis, Sidney Bechet, Edmond Hall and Willie Humphrey, Uli has formed his New Orleans Hot3. A musical gumbo as a declaration of love to the hometown of jazz on the Mississippi - "hot and swinging" interpreted by three long-time friends and top-class musicians.
