He is a drummer who creates spaces, creates finely shaded sound-painting scenarios for his fellow players and knows how to steer the music with elegant subtlety: Nathan Ott is no longer an unknown face in the European jazz landscape. In his current quartet, he meets a key figure in European jazz: Christof Lauer - for decades the defining voice of the NDR Big Band, a sought-after soloist and feared sound researcher, stands for an expression that transcends all stylistic boundaries. In this constellation, he enters into an intensive musical dialog with a new generation of improvising musicians: the Argentinian saxophonist Camila Nebbia and the Danish bassist Jonas Westergaard - both independent voices that are significantly shaping the current jazz scene. Together they play closely communicating, atmospherically dense, contemporary music that is capable of all dynamic intensifications without ever losing its grounding - a highly intense live experience. The current album Continuum (2025 on An:Bruch) - a direct-to-tape recording from the legendary Bauer Studios - was included in the best list of the German Record Critics' Award.
