JAZZTERDAYS "JAZZ-REVUE"
A mosaic of stories, projections, sound collages and songs like "Lullaby of Birdland", "I Get A Kick Out Of You", "My Funny Valentine", "Round Midnight" or "Cantaloupe Island".
For one night, the New York "Birdland" is to open once again. Before that, bartender Walter (Hans-Jörg Frey) reflects on the great days of the jazz club. Since 1949, when it opened with Lester Young and Charlie "Bird" Parker, he has experienced everything - the dazzling and the dark side of jazz. At the bar, he mixes hard-hitting and smug stories of love and jealousy, drugs and madness, crime and death. At the center: jazz icons like Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Thelonious Monk or Chet Baker. Walter is joined by jazz singer Nancy (San Glaser). She rehearses with her band in the abandoned club and refuses to believe that the reopening will only be a one-time event. The frame story and production are by Volker Präkelt, author and director of the crime revue ARTE CRIMINALE and the play HERBST IN NEW YORK. In JAZZTERDAYS he is also on stage as narrator and keyboard player. The role of bartender Walter is played by the Swiss Hans-Jörg Frey, known from the ensemble of the Hamburg Schauspielhaus and the Thalia Theater. In film and television he can be seen alongside Iris Berben, Axel Milberg and Ulrich Tukur. Many jazz legends became immortal not only through their music, but their fight against racism and intolerance, which gives this excitingly staged evening special depth.
